Stevia a Healthy Sugar Substitute

The herb, Stevia Rebaudiana, has been used for centuries by the Guarani Indians of Paraguay.

Its name means sweet herb. The Guarani used stevia nutritionally and medicinally.

This herb is sold in some countries to aid diabetics and hypoglycemics.

Stevia has a regulating effect on the pancreas and it helps to stabilize blood sugar levels which make it useful for people with diabetes, hypoglycemia, and Candidiasis.

Other traditional uses of stevia are:

  • lowered blood pressure (hypertension)
  • acts as a digestive aid
  • reduces gas
  • reduces stomach acidity
  • reduces obesity
  • inhibits the growth of some bacteria
  • inhibits the growth of infectious organisms and
  • acts as a general tonic which increases energy levels and mental alertness.

Stevia extract is a very sweet supplement that has no calories.

People who regularlly ingest stevia have a decrease in their desire for sweets and fatty foods.

This herb, Stevia, is a healthy alternative or substitute for regular processed sugar that is no good for you and leaves you with a desire for more sweets and fatty foods.

It also tastes very good, I use it in my coffee and with tea.

High Gas Prices

You might think this is a bit off topic, but if you really think about it the high prices of everything now really does affect our health.

This is just a little gas price humor.

Acai Berry

Acai is the fruit of a palm tree native to South America.

Acai berry, acai palm, cabbage palm, palm berry it doesn’t matter what you call it, it’s a superfood as seen on Oprah and in all the health magazines.

It’s claims are remarkable including preventing Cancer, Heart disease, Stroke, Diarrhea, and Autoimmune disorders.

It’s no wonder it’s so highly spoken of. It’s also evident in the price. I didn’t find any actual berries in my search but I did find a lot of drinks with the Acai Berries in them.

One that looked really promising was the Acai Juice which was almost $50.00 for 16 fl. oz. They say that’s a good buy, I think I’ll hold out for more information regarding this healing superfood.

In the meantime I’ll just stick to the basics, healthy eating, exercise and plenty of sunshine. I couldn’t escape the sunshine even if I wanted to here in Vegas with the mercury steadily rising, every minute it seems.

If any of you out there have tried the Acai Berries for alternative health medicine I would like to hear from you and learn more about this superfood from firsthand users.
